During Moving Forward last week we got a double dose of diabetes awareness with Carol Swayze and Stephen Wickham from Lifestyle Makeovers joining us on Wednesday, and Kim Seligman with the Muscatine Diabetes Project on Thursday.

Carol and Stephen from Lifestyle Makeovers brought a topic that I was previously unaware existed. They work to help people living with diabetes to reverse their diagnosis. And as unbelievable as that sounds, they are finding success! If you are anything like me, when I first heard that reversal was possible, I couldn’t even begin to comprehend what they were saying. It was so engrained into my mind that once someone was diagnosed with diabetes they were forced to live with it the rest of their lives. The idea that they may be able to overcome it was astounding. I spent the majority of the interview trying to wrap my mind around the idea. It was a fascinating look at how the human body works and how there are ways to fight the diabetes diagnosis.

After speaking with the two from Lifestyle Makeovers, I was very excited to talk to Kim Seligman from the Muscatine Diabetes Project, who works very hard to bring awareness to diabetes in our community. They hosted their annual walk last Friday at Discovery Park to raise funds for the Muscatine Diabetes Project that provides education, programs, outreach activities, and support groups to our community.

Go check out my interviews with these amazing folks and be sure to send some support their way in whatever fashion you can.
