Muscatine had four swimmer take to the pool on Saturday for the State Swimming meet. Junior Sarah Schemmel had a meet to remember, she won the 50 Freestyle (23.24), she followed that performance up with another victory the 100 Freestyle (50:51). Schemmel’s two victories earned her 2 All-American awards, and the Iowa High School Athletic Unions Outstanding Swimmer award. Tori Roth the 200 Individual Medley with a 20th place finish in a time of 2:16. Roth had a time of 5:26 in the 500 Freestyle for a 24th place finish. Schemmel, Roth, joined Samara Perkins and Jaelynn Klein finished in 22ndplace in the 200 Freestyle relay (1:42), and 20th place in the 400 Freestyle relay (3:45). This was a strong showing the girls who took 13th in the team race. Dowling of West Des Moines won the team title.
Jaycie Klein ends career on a high note
Jaycie Klein took to the diving board one last time on Friday in Marshalltown. Klein finished her 4th State Diving meet with a career best 4th place finish. She scored a career high 480.90 points. Prior to Friday she her best finish was 6th place, Pleasant Valley’s Claire Park won the state championship.
