Join The Salvation Army of Muscatine as they kick off their Be The Shield 2016 Holiday Campaign on Friday, November 18 at 12 p.m. located at The Salvation Army of Muscatine at 1000 Oregon Street, Muscatine. Greg Jenkins, current Advisory Board Chairman of The Salvation Army of Muscatine, will emcee the Be The Shield 2016 Holiday Kick Off event. Greg has a great passion for making a difference in the Muscatine community and has committed many years to serving on the Advisory Board. The Be The Shield 2016 Holiday Chair, Jim Hayes, President & CEO of Trinity Muscatine, and the 2016 Holiday campaign goal will be highlighted at the event.
The kick off will include music, a light snack, Salvation Army Shield cookies, and a “selfie” opportunity with some superhero cut outs. The money raised during the Be The Shield 2016 Holiday Campaign helps to fund meal programs, supplemental food boxes, youth programs, financial assistance, senior services, emergency response work, outreach efforts, and more throughout the entire year. In 2015, this community provided a shield for many fellow citizens through:
- the gift of rent or utility assistance to 1157 families
- providing 6,689 meals
- distributing 323 food boxes to households
- distributing 2,488 toys
- Total persons assisted: 1,157
This year, nearly 47% of the yearly operating support is projected to be raised during the holiday season. This is raised through Red Kettles, mail-in donations, and online donations, with 82 cents of every dollar going directly to those in need in the Muscatine area.
