Charles Frederick Ealey, Sr., age 89, of Wapello, died Wednesday morning, June 13, 2018, at his residence. The son of Harry and Mary Madaline Howren Ealey, he was born on September 16, 1928 in Keokuk. He married Jeanette Irene Johnson on November 10, 1952 in Keokuk. He later married Margie May Teays in 1993.
Charles graduated from Keokuk High School where he played football. He attended Southeastern Community College and received his welding certificate in 1981. Charles served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver and after retirement he spent several years as a Wal Mart greeter. Charles had spent 18 years in Texas and moved back to Wapello in 2015.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Community Bible Church in Mediapolis and had been a member and worship leader for the former Cedar Street Church of God in Wapello. He was also a Teamster member. Charles enjoyed woodworking, welding, auto body work, fishing, hunting, westerns, music, and singing.
His family includes five children, Chuck & Debbie Ealey of Wapello, Kris Ealey of Burlington, Robert Ealey of Wapello, Kim & Todd Earnest of Wapello, and Candy VanDolah of Oquawka, Illinois; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Hastings of Keokuk. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie; his wife, Margie; his parents and step-mother, Orene; a brother, Harry Lee Ealey; and a sister, Maxine Cooper.
Cremation has been fulfilled with a private burial planned for the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
