United Fire Group (UFG) has announced Mike Hagerty, a life insurance agent with EOI Management / Investment Center of Muscatine, as a recipient of the Scotty McIntyre, Jr., “Go Beyond” award that recognizes individuals for their exemplary community service efforts.

Hagerty is involved with the Kids First Fund, an organization that helps children in the Muscatine Community School District participate in school activities they could not otherwise afford. The Kids First Fund provides items such as clothing, shoes, school supplies, and activity fees, as well as gas for college visits.

Hagerty’s involvement with the local school district includes teaching sections of FFA classes and speaking with students about the importance of bees and other pollinators. He also serves as Board President for the A. J. Magnus Home, a home for elderly and disabled men; coordinates an annual event to raise funds for cystic fibrosis; and is active in a building campaign fundraiser for his church.

The Go Beyond Award was named in honor of Scotty McIntyre, Jr., former CEO, UFG Chairman and son of founder Scott McIntyre. McIntyre considered insurance as a “people” business and always chose to go beyond the number to seek the human side, whether interacting with agents, policyholders or employees.

Each year, three individuals are recognized with the award, with one from each of three categories: United Life agency employee, UFG agency employee, and UFG employee. Candidates are nominated by their UFG peers and coworkers, with winners chosen by a committee of UFG employees representing diverse departments throughout the region and the country. Hagerty was nominated by fellow UFG life insurance agent Tom Alexander.

In the spirit of community service, UFG contributes $5,000 to a community service organization chosen by the Go Beyond award winner. Hagerty has chosen the Kids First Fund as the recipient of the funds.
