LULAC Council 371 of Muscatine will host an interactive workshop for those who are interested in running for local office on Saturday, August 12 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach building, 1514 Isett Avenue, Muscatine. The workshop will primarily address running for city council,

“This workshop is part of a LULAC Iowa Civic Engagement Project to encourage and empower more people, especially Latinos and Latinas, to run for local office,” said Nick Salazar, President, LULAC Muscatine.

This free, interactive workshop will cover the fundamentals of starting and running an effective campaign, from filing papers and fundraising to serving as an effective elected official. This event is led by a team of experienced candidates, including Humberto Aguilar, former city councilman of Moline; Jose Zacarias, former city councilman of West Liberty; Maria Bribriesco, former candidate for Iowa State House; and Greg Aguilar, former candidate for United States House of Representatives.

Muscatine City Council elections will include the second ward, fourth ward, and at large council seats on November 7, 2017. The first day to file nomination papers is Monday, August 28, 2017; the last day to file is Thursday, September 21, 2017.
