Each year the unofficial religion of the state of Iowa holds their annual conference at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Iowa. What may that religion be? High school wrestling. Local wrestlers fared well this year. Three local wrestlers took center mat Saturday with the chance to be declared state champion. In class 1A 113 pound Devon Meeker drew Cael Happel of Lisbon. Happel defeated Meeker 21 – 6. In Class 2A at 106 pounds Columbus Communities Jared Kadel faced off with Grayson Kesterton of Williamsburg. Kesteron won 4 – 0. West Liberty’s Bryce Esmoil battled Cody Fisher for the class 2A 195-pound title. Esmoil defeated Fisher by technical fall 15 – 0.

Other area wrestlers who earned All-State honors: Louisa Muscatine’s Austin Leopard earned 4th place, Wilton’s Bryce Oveson earned 4th place, Wilton’s Trey Brisker earned 3rd place, West Liberty’s Will Esmoil earned 3rd place, and West Liberty’s Joe Kelly earned 3rd place.
