Mark your calendars for Saturday, Oct. 12, when Friends of the Wilton Public Library will sponsor the annual "Evening With Friends" at the Wilton Community Center, 1215 Cypress Street. The event, which is the group's only big fund raiser, includes a soup supper, dessert bar and silent/live auction. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the admission price includes all of the soup and dessert that you care to eat. Prices are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 10-14, while children age 9 and under are free.
The meal, with fresh bread and homemade soups (chili, potato and chicken noodle) begins at 5:30 p.m. The silent auction, which features 150 to 200 items including a private airplane ride, starts at the same time. Jeff Kaufmann will serve as auctioneer for the live auction that gets underway around 7 p.m.
Always a highlight of the bidding is a painting donated by local artist Twyla Whitmer, who paints under the name T. Watson Bogaard. She chose the Wilton Elementary School as her subject this year.
All of the money raised at the event goes to the library for programming or purchasing materials. Last year the Friends group purchased 12 public use computers, which have been a popular addition to the library.
