Friends Of Melpine Tours (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The school house building located at Wild Cat Den State Park is now open on Sunday afternoons from one to four o'clock and hosted by volunteers to answer questions.  Admission is free.

There are old school books to read, a piano waiting for someone to share there music ability, memory book written by Muscatine County rural students and teachers, a glass case filled with old precious memorabilia, crafts for kids to do and an outhouse to explain to grand children.  This is a nice outing for families in the area to enjoy.  The beauty of the park with trails to discover and maybe something good in the picnic basket to enjoy!




Trinity Garden Walk (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The Trinity Muscatine Friends will sponsor a Garden Walk on Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 1-4 PM. Five diverse gardens in Muscatine will be available for touring, giving visitors inspirations for their own properties. The home on tour are:

Lock And Dam #16 Tours (2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project invites the public to enjoy a tour of Lock and Dam #16. Every Sunday from May 26, 2013 through September 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM, weather permitting, tours of Locks and Dam #16 will be conducted for the public. A special Memorial Day weekend tour will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Lock and Dam #16 is located off 102nd Ave West on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River about one mile upstream from the bridge in Muscatine, IA. Participants will be presented with a history of the Upper Mississippi River system, how the river system operates and the process it takes to move a barge through a lock. The tour is capped off with a walk on the lock structure. Walking is a part of the tour, so participants must wear shoes with enclosed toes and an enclosed back (tennis shoes are best). Advance reservations are required as group size is limited. Please allow approximately one hour to complete the tour. Many people who are struggling with grief and loss find it helpful to have social outlets, such as this luncheon, where support is available. This luncheon provides an opportunity for bereaved to meet one another and share common experiences. We have tables reserved especially for this group and you will be greeted by Iowa City Hospice staff. Ice Cream Social at the Muscatine Art Center

Time: 1-5 PM

Kick off your Fourth of July celebrations at the Annual Ice Cream Social presented by the Friends of the Muscatine Art Center. As always, there will be plenty of ice cream, desserts, family-friendly fun and an art fair. The musical line-up for this year is "Tammy and the Fyffe's" at 1 PM, "Gwendolyn Countryman and the Dusty Road" at 2 PM and "The Creepin' Charlies" at 3:15 PM. New this year is a book slae and "fun with fruit" - edible crafts sponsored by the Muscatine Hy-Vee. Families are encouraged to participate in a bike ride from Discovery Park to the ARt Center, and kids can decorate a flag for their bikes while at the ARt Center. The bike ride departs at 1 PM. The highlight this year is the dedication of the "E. Brandford Burns Performing Arts Park" on the grounds of the Art Center at 1 PM.
