Volunteers across the United States will soon help restore the beauty and vitality of some public lands.

It’s the 19th annual National Public Lands Day, and it’s this Saturday, September 29th.

More than 170,000 volunteers are expected at more than 2,000 sites in communities and parks

around the nation.

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch is enlisting local volunteers and volunteer organizations to help reconstruct the 81-acre native tallgrass prairie.

Volunteers will cut and haul shrubs and invasive weeds from the grassland.

If you would like to help, contact Adam Prato at (319) 643-2541. You’ll meet at the Visitor Center at 8:30 Saturday for an orientation and to get signed up.

Work will be from 9 to noon.
