Francesca Vitales is the winner of the Battle of the Chefs for the second year in a row. Jamie, from Francesca's, made an amazing Mushroom and Garlic Sauce over Beef. Lupe from Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant, Molly McGuire from Elly’s Tea and Coffee, Cindy Carver from the Rendezvous and the chefs from Hy-Vee all participated in this year’s Battle of the Chefs. The proceeds from the ticket sales and the auction items that were sold all go to benefit the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra.
There was action on three cases, Friday, in District Court. 24-year old Abigail Sojka of Arlington Heights, IL plead guilty in Muscatine County District Court for eluding a pursuing law enforcement vehicle and operating while intoxicated as a result of a July 6th chase by a Muscatine County Sheriff’s Deputy. Sojka will be sentenced at a later date.
51-year old Brian Howell of Ely, IA plead guilty to eluding a pursuing law enforcement vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and driving while revoked. On July 28th, an Atalissa police officer attempted to stop his vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver fled and then crashed. His driving privileges were revoked at the time of the incident. Howell will be sentenced November 8th.
29-year old Trenton Grant of Davenport was sentenced to a term not to exceed 5 years after pleading guilty to burglary in the third degree. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that Grant had burglarized a residence on June 14th.
Iowa Public Television has chosen Muscatine as one of 25 communities that they will provide high quality media resources. IPT will provide these resources to Muscatine families, care providers and educators and they will provide training in the use of these resources. The initiative will use a comprehensive approach to surround parents, teachers, care providers and educators with literacy-based tools.
