There’s a new candidate for governor, and he’s from Muscatine. Seventy-three-year old Jerry Rhoads operates All-American Care in Muscatine. He is forming a third political party, the American Enterprise Party.
Olgilvie Road is closed as of 9 this morning for a railroad crossing repair project. The closure begins at Wiggens Road south to the Muscatine/Louisa county line. Access will be available to residences in the closed area but no traffic will be allowed through at the crossing. This closure is expected to last one week, weather permitting.
The owner of Muscatine Magazine and former interim coordinator of the Muscatine Convention and Visitors Bureau has joined the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Janet Morrow will be the chamber's director of community and member development and the staff liaison to the chamber's community development and membership committees.
The West Liberty Public Library has achieved state accreditation from Iowa Library Services. That means it has met all standards set by the state in quality and local involvement. In return, the West Liberty Library will receive a higher rate of compensation from the Iowa Library Service’s Enrich Iowa Program and a certificate signed by the governor. We asked library director Janette McMahon what it took to become accredited.
Jared Hershberger, a member of Congressman Dave Loebsack’s staff, will be visiting some eastern Iowa city halls this month to work with individuals who are having difficulty with a government agency, have suggestions for Loebsack or would just like to share their concerns. Hershberger will be at the Muscatine City Hall from 10 until noon today, Thursday; and again on Thursdays, September 12th, 19th and 26th. Trinity Muscatine Friends are holding their annual meeting on Wednesday, September 18th, at the Geneva Golf and Country Club. A short business meeting to review the year and elect officers and directors begins at 11:15 followed by a luncheon. A program entitled “Laughter in Slow Motion” will be presented by the Caleen Pagel, physical therapist and Tai Chi instructor. Reservations are due by September 11th. The cost is $14.
