Goodwill of the Heartland has recognized Taco John’s of Muscatine with an award for its efforts to employ people working to overcome barriers. Taco John’s was nominated for the award by a Goodwill staff member who made note of the business’s interactions with an individual struggling with several health and personal challenges. The employee needed to take time off to deal with the issues. Goodwill says Taco John’s manager, Vicky Mockmore, approved the time-off request and went out of her way to ensure the employee her job would be waiting.
Four decades ago, Bobby Fischer, a Wilton native, left a good job and a local following as a musician in the Quad Cities area. He moved to Nashville to pursue his dream of being a country music songwriter. It was a struggle, but Fischer finally succeeded. The Muscatine High School Band’s final concert of the school year and senior recognition night is at 7 tonight in the MHS Auditorium. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for students and $10 for families.
