Some search firms will make proposals to the Muscatine School Board at a special meeting at 5:30 on Wednesday. The board may or may not take action then on hiring one of the firms as it looks to replace Bill Decker. The superintendent will leave this summer to run the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency in Bettendorf.

The Iowa Department for the Blind is joining with vendors and service providers to hold a Vision Loss Resource Fair in Muscatine on Wednesday, April 10th. The fair is from 12:30 to 3 at New Hope United Methodist Church, 3215 Tipton Road. It’s for Iowans who are experiencing blindness or vision loss. It will present tools, techniques and opportunities for independence. Dr. Jed Burkey, an optometrist with Vision Center PC, Muscatine, will present a program from 1 to 2 on eye diseases and their treatment.

A Mediapolis student has won a $500 Keep Iowa Beautiful Environmental Scholarship. He is Benjamin Vorwerk, who will be attending the University of Iowa. Scholarship winners were selected based upon their academic achievement, community service and environmental college major. Awards will be presented at the Keep Iowa Beautiful Conference on May 1st in Greenfield.
