Ongoing sewer separation projects in Muscatine will continue next week and that means  street closures in the area of Sixth and Seventh Streets and Iowa Avenue and Cedar Street. On Monday, March 25, Sixth Street will be closed from west of Cedar Street to west of Iowa Avenue.  Traffic control will be in place for the six-seven week project. Work activity further west on Sixth Street will continue through July, with Phase 2 work on Sixth Street to follow into the winter.


Muscatine Police conducted a traffic stop on Monday, March 18, and wound up arresting a local man on felony charges. According to court records, Gary Jasperson, 44,  was allegedly driving drunk and upon search of his vehicle was found in possession of .4 grams of meth, a military-style knife with a blade, a loaded flare gun and a broken piece of light bulb that he admitted to using to smoke meth. Jasperson was charged with second-offense OWI, carrying weapons, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon. He posted bail and has been released from jail.

Muscatine Radio is hosting the 2013 Annual FS Spring Ag Roundtable next week live on KWPC AM860. The panel will address local, national and global agricultural topics. Some panel participants include Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Craig Hill, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau and Wendell Shauman, chairman of the U.S. Grains Council as well as local figures.

Volunteer soccer coaches are needed for the Muscatine Community Y’s spring season. Practices

Persons interested in learning more about Muscatine Community College can attend a school visit day at 9 a.m. on Aril 5.  

The day includes tours of the college and the opportunity to learn about financial aid options, clubs, programs of study and school activities.
