Muscatine's modern new Fridley-owned movie theater The Palms is up and running. It is on the Highway 61 Bypass at Mulberry Avenue. Our Tony Tone attended Thursday’s opening and interviewed Fridley operations director Russ Vannorsdel. Tony also spoke to Bill Phelan, executive director of the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Among the first movies being shown at the 10-plex is the popular "Oz, the Great and Powerful."
Refunds totaling $7.9 million are waiting for Iowa residents who haven’t filed old tax returns. So says the Internal Revenue Service. There’s a three year window to get old tax refunds, and for calendar year 2009 tax returns, that window expires April 15th. There is no penalty for filing a late return qualifying for a refund. If no return is filed to claim a refund within three years, the money becomes property of the U.S. Treasury.
