It may soon become more difficult for government to take private land for recreational purposes. A bill that adds landowner protections to Iowa's eminent domain law passed the Iowa House 93-6 Monday. Four Iowa high school students received the 2013 Iowa Bankers Association's Student Athlete Achievement Award during the Iowa High School Boys State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines. It comes with a $1,000 scholarship. Recipients included of Logan Forbes of Lone Tree Community School. Congressman Dave Loebsack will have a member of his staff in southeastern Iowa for some open office hours. He'll be at Muscatine City Hall from 10 to noon on March 14th, 21st and 28th. He'll be at Wilton City Hall from 2 to 3 on March 14th, Columbus Junction City Hall from 2 to 3 on March 21st and West Liberty City Hall from 1 to 2 on March 28th. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley has summer internships available for college age Iowans. The applications, which are due March 22nd, are available at Grassley's offices, including the one in Davenport. Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement is offering nearly $114,000 in scholarships. They are for any college-bound student who was active in 4H and/or FFA livestock projects or current undergraduate students attending Iowa State University. There are other requirements.
