Dignitaries plan to sign a memorandum of agreement that paves the way for more than a dozen high school and college students and three chaperones to travel to China this summer. They’ll spend a month studying Chinese language and culture and clean energy science at Wanxiang Polytechnic.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has awarded a $3,000 grant to an organization in Letts. On its Facebook page, Iowa Parrot Rescue says the money will allow them to finish insulating and covering exposed walls at the rescue center, purchase new educational display materials, fund some travel for education and devote $1,000 to medical care, especially for abused, neglected birds.
The Iowa DNR will hold a public hearing next month to receive comments regarding proposed air quality construction permit modifications requested by Union Tank Car Company, 2603 Dick Drake Way, Muscatine. The hearing will be held from 6 to 7:30 Wednesday, March 27th, at the Muscatine Environmental Learning Center, 3300 Cedar Street.
It’s getting to be a regular thing. Crews have fished another vehicle from Clear Lake in north central Iowa. The Iowa DNR says a pickup driven by a 38-year-old Mason City man broke through the ice approximately 40 feet from a downtown boat ramp after 2 a.m. Tuesday. The man and his female passenger were able to get out of the truck.
