U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin has had enough. The 73-year-old Iowa Democrat told the Des Moines Register over the weekend that he won’t run for a sixth term next year.
Freezing rain Sunday morning and much of the afternoon turned a large portion of the Midwest into a skating rink. Getting around on foot and by car was difficult at best. The storm had Mike Seidel of the Weather Channel reporting live on the situation from Davenport.
Four people – two from Muscatine and two from Wilton – have been charged with theft. The Wilton-Durant Advocate News reports they allegedly stole money from a Community Credit Union ATM. Charged are 23-year-old Kriston Proctor and 19-year-old Bryant Gilliams Jr., both of Muscatine, and 40-year-old Jeffery Penca and 20-year-old Caleb Hunter, both of Wilton.
Muscatine, Davenport and other Iowa cities use them. But opponents of traffic enforcement cameras hope to ban them statewide this legislative session. The House voted to ban the cameras last session but it never came to a vote in the Senate.
