A longtime fair board member has won a national award.

Bob Schlutz has served as a director of the Louisa County Fair since 1971 and as a director of the Iowa State Fair since 1991.

He was was one of five volunteers presented with the Heritage Award at last week’s convention of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

The recipients were nominated by people associated with their fairs. Each winner received a plaque and $1,000, and each fair nominating the winners received $500.

KWPC News spoke with Schlutz soon after he received his award.

This year, Schlutz and his wife, Marilyn, were inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
