Area Football Scores PDF Print E-mail
Written by Charles Potter

Columbus wins its Homecoming game.  The Lions, Tigers, and Bears were also victorious.  But the Beavers got beat.

Last week's area high school football action saw most local teams going down to defeat and a lot of shutouts. But that wasn't the case Friday night. Most area teams were victorious, and there was a lot of scoring going on.

In a game you heard on AM 860, Columbus Community grounded the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons 51 to six in Columbus's homecoming game. The West Liberty Comets breezed past Camanche, 31 to seven. WACO topped Highland of Riverside, 21 to seven. In the area's Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my -- the Lone Tree Lions roared past Danville 68 to 28, the Tipton Tigers ran past Center Point-Urbana 55 to twelve, and the West Branch Bears clawed Belle Plaine 35 to nineteen.

But some area teams weren't so lucky. The Wilton Beavers were topped by Iowa City Regina, 24 to 21. Durant-Bennett was edged by Eddyville-Blakesburg, twenty to fourteen. Wapello was hammered by Pekin of Packwood, 62 to 26. Neighboring Winfield-Mount Union was edged by New London, 32 to 26. And North Cedar of Stanwood was smashed by Solon, 47 to 22.

For our friends across the river, Rockridge was topped by Knoxville thirty to twenty, and Aledo-Westmer shut out Elmwood-Brimfield, forty to nothing.

And of course, the Muscatine Muskies were victorious Thursday night over Davenport North, 41 to fourteen in a game you heard on AM 860.
