On November 17, 2017 at 9:27 a.m. Muscatine County sheriff deputies attempted to stop a red 2001 Ford truck at the intersection of Mulberry Rd. and 155th St, north of Muscatine. This vehicle had been observed speeding, and the operator of the vehicle, RUSTY WAYNE WADDEN (29 years of age) was known to be wanted on warrants.
The WADDEN vehicle failed to yield to the deputies, and a pursuit ensued through the county (speeds in excess of 100 mph). The pursuit entered the city of Muscatine at Hwy. 38 and Hwy. 61 (southbound), where the WADDEN vehicle struck a sheriff’s squad in the 2600 block of Park Avenue (9:34 a.m.), also damaging the stop lights at that intersection.
The pursuit continued through the city of Muscatine (speeds up to 80 mph). The pursuit ended in the 200 block of Roscoe Avenue, where the WADDEN vehicle collided with another sheriff’s vehicle, as well as a retaining wall there.
Both WADDEN and the deputy sheriff (on Roscoe) were transported via ambulance to Unity Point (Trinity) hospital in Muscatine. The deputy suffered minor injuries and has been released; but not cleared to return to work. The deputy from the first accident (2600 blk. Park Avenue) was treated and released for minor injuries, but remained on duty.
WADDEN has warrants for: NATIONWIDE FELONY BENCH WARRANT; Parole violation, NO BOND, for burglary in the 3rd degree and Theft in the 2nd degree. Warrant # 2: Possession of marijuana (Muscatine County warrant, $2,000 bond).
Sheriff Ryan stated, “It is unfortunate that we have to deal with individuals that have no regard for the law, or person’s lives or property. The operation of the vehicle by Mr. Wadden today puts people at great risk, and we make every attempt to end those situations as quickly as possible.”
