The City of Muscatine has announced that Spring Clean Up Week 2017 will be held from Tuesday, April 25 through Monday, May 1, 2017. This week offers residents of Muscatine and Fruitland the opportunity to dispose of bulky items at no charge. Collection for Spring Clean Up is the same day as residents’ refuse collection.
Among the items that the Public Works Department WILL pick up are furniture, dismantled swing sets, building materials not to exceed a pick up load measuring 8’x4’x2’, and up to four (4) appliances, excluding camper refrigerators and camper air conditioning units. Standard refrigerators and freezers need to have the doors removed for safety.
Camper air conditioners and camper refrigerators may be disposed of at the Transfer Station for a fee throughout the year.
All refuse and bulky items should be placed on the curb by 5:00 a.m. the day of pick up and no earlier than 4:00 p.m. the day before pick up.
The City of Muscatine has added tires and electronic waste to the list of items that the Public Works Department will not pick up this year. That list also includes building materials larger than a pickup load, car bodies, excessive amounts of concrete, hazardous chemicals, large trees, motor oil, paint, and torn-down buildings such as garages or sheds.
During Spring Clean Up Week, the Transfer Station will accept the following items for free with proof of residency in the City of Muscatine or Fruitland: up to eight (8) car and/or light truck tires, electronic waste items including computers, televisions or any item containing a circuit, paint, hazardous chemicals, motor oil, and medical sharps in a container.
Residents will be responsible for bringing the items to the Transfer Station located at 1000 South Houser Street.
