Breakfast and a parade
By Mary Mason
Muscatine area families can start off the morning of July 4th with the United Way of Muscatine’s Kids First Pancake Breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the 1st National Bank
Walnut Room. The Walnut room is located at the Walnut & 2nd Street entrance.
Also downtown in the morning will be the 3rd annual Kids Parade. The parade begins at First National Bank and will head down Second Street to Iowa Street, then up Iowa to the ending point at the Library.
Participants are invited and encouraged to dress in costumes. Traditionally, costumes chosen align with the theme of the library summer reading program. This year’s theme is the Olympics. Children could possibly dress as their favorite athlete, though any costumes are welcome. While the costumes are welcome and may provide added fun for some children, costumes are not required to participate.
Betty Collins, Musser Public Library Children’s Librarian, describes the parade this way: “The whole thing is a fun, relaxed time. There is no program or agenda, just a fun time for the kids and their families. It’s a fun time before the bustle of the holiday, a good time for kids to BE the parade.”
Once arriving at the library, children and their families will be treated to popsicles.
