You may have heard the buzz about the big red tree that appeared on Saturday, July 14th, on Mulberry Avenue in front of the radio station, many people are wondering “What’s the scoop”?
The summer months are some of the hardest for blood centers to get donors through the doors, with busy summer schedules people don’t donate as frequently. That is why the Voice of Muscatine has teamed up with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center to host a local blood drive because we understand that “Blood doesn’t grow on trees”!
As a community we need to come together to ensure that when blood transfusions are needed that they have the blood on the shelves to make that happen. I never truly understood the impact donations made until my own father needed transfusions during his battle with leukemia. Ever since that day I have been a frequent donor! Blood donors gave my dad and I more time together, and I will be forever grateful for that. I hope that my passion for this cause is shown through the tree and helps get donors through the doors on July 26th!
The reason we “bombed” the tree red is to not only promote the blood drive on July 26th from 9:30am to 6:30pm at the MVRBC, 2604 2nd Ave., Muscatine, next to Hy-Vee, but to also build awareness around an important topic, blood donation.
