On Monday, December 19, residents from MCSA were treated to a special dinner, along with some special guests.

The Monsanto Leadership Team visited the Center and brought along some friends. Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand to visit with the children who live at MCSA and to deliver gifts.

Monsanto Plant Manager Shawn Schrader explains, “We used to send a Christmas card through the mail to every employee. In 2014, we decided to use those same funds for a different purpose.” Since that time, the company has used the money that would have been spent on cards and postage to provide a meal to residents at MCSA. Schrader continues, “No one has complained about missing a card. In fact, the first year, we had employees thank us for using the funds in a more productive way.”

This year’s meal consisted of chicken or lasagna and was catered by The Rendezvous in Muscatine.  “When we talked with the residents, we found that many people and organizations provide the traditional holiday meal, and thought the residents would like something different.”

The meal was served by members of the Monsanto Leadership Team to the MCSA’s 48 adult male residents, 15 adult female residents, and 25 children. In all, over 90 plates of food were served.

Schrader says the company intends to continue the tradition into the future. “Helping in this way really leaves an impact. I know personally; I remember the smiles for the rest of the year. We love to be able to give back to the community.”
