Muscatine
Warning Siren Guide
Remember,
"When the sirens blow, listen to the radio!"
AM860 KWPC and 93.1 FM KMCS are your first source for storm warning information.
When you hear the sirens, tune your radio immediately to AM860 KWPC or 93.1FM KMCS to hear
what the sirens are on for. The National Weather Service and the Office of Disaster
Services in Muscatine have the ability to break in to our programming to alert
the public as to why the sirens are blaring. So, "When
the sirens blow, listen to the radio!"
Here is a handy guide to what each siren means:
The Siren Test is conducted
every first Monday of the month during nonfreezing weather at 11:00AM. The test
consists of a 30-Second steady tone, then 30-Seconds of silence, followed by a
30-second wavering tone.
The Tornado Warning
consists of a steady 3-Minute tone. This means a tornado has been spotted and
citizens should seek shelter immediately and commence emergency procedures.
The Tornado
Warning Clear signal consists of a 30-Second steady tone, then 30-Seconds of silence,
followed by a 30-Second steady tone. This means the immediate threat has
subsided. However, it is usual for an actual Tornado Watch to remain in effect.
The Attack Warning is a
3-Minute wavering tone signal that means citizens should tune in their radios to
AM860 or 93.1FM for further instructions or information on events happening.
